If you love burgers and you love pies, this one’s a no-brainer.
These Burger Pies are exactly what they sound like, juicy beef patties stuffed with cheese, wrapped in crispy puff pastry and loaded with all the best burger flavours. Burger sauce, extra cheese and pickles all sealed inside a golden pie.
They’re ridiculously easy to make and perfect for a weekend cook-up, game day, or feeding a hungry crew.
Simple ingredients. Big flavour.
Ingredients
-
500g beef mince
-
Salt
-
Fresh cracked black pepper
-
American cheese slices
-
Puff pastry sheets
-
Burger sauce
-
Extra cheese (grated or sliced)
-
Pickles, sliced
Method
1. Form the patties
Divide the beef mince into equal portions and flatten each portion into a thin patty.
Place a slice of American cheese in the centre of each patty, then fold the mince around it so the cheese is completely sealed inside.
Shape into thick burger-style patties.
2. Season
Season the outside of each patty with salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
3. Sear the patties
Heat a pan or BBQ until hot and sear the patties until browned on the outside.
They don’t need to be fully cooked through yet — they’ll finish cooking inside the pie.
4. Prepare the pastry
Cut puff pastry to fit the base of your pie maker moulds and press the pastry into each mould.
5. Build the pies
Place one seared patty into each pastry base.
Top with:
-
A spoon of burger sauce
-
Extra cheese
-
A few pickle slices
6. Add the lid
Cut more puff pastry for the pie lids and place on top.
Close the pie maker.
7. Cook
Cook until the pastry is golden, crispy and cooked through, and the burger filling is hot and juicy.
Serve hot.
Volk’s Hot Tip
If you don’t have a pie maker, you can make these in a muffin tray or small pie tins in the oven.
Just bake at 200°C until the pastry is golden and crisp.
And don’t skip the pickles - that acidity cuts through the cheese and beef perfectly.
